Despite what they say about the lazy (and certainley hot) days of summer, August was an exceptionally busy month for our chapter.
Chapter President, Rev. Norman Goos and Secretary/Historian Earl Cain had the honor of presenting the S.A.R. Good Citizenship Medal to Congressman Frank LoBiondo today at the 
Somers Mansion in Somers Point. Congressman LoBiondo has been and is a strong supporter of Veterans of all wars. We also presented the Congressman with a book that is the beginning of a key project within the Col. Richard Somers Chapter to document the 3rd Battalion, Gloucester County Militia, led by Col. Richard Somers during the Revolutionary War.
At our monthly meeting, John Morsa, Curator of the Somers' 
Mansion brought us up to date on the upcomming plans for the Mansion as well as presenting a bit of its history.
Not to be out done, chapter president Rev. Norman Goos took the oppurtunity to address the Southern New Jersey Shore Genealogical Club on August 11th, at the Atlantic County Library. Rev. Goos presented his extensive research, compiled from pension applications, regarding the South Jersey events of late 1776. The following is a somewhat jumpy video of the presentation, after viewing you might have a whole new appreciation of the role of Betsy Ross in the fight for independence.........
