On a bright and warm fall day the members of the
Col. Richard Somers Chapter Sons of the American Revolution joined with friends from the Philadelphia-Continental Chapter, honored recipients of the Purple Heart,
the Boy Scouts of America and friends to comemorate the 230th Anniversary of the Battle of Chestnut
The ceremony began at 11:00 AM with the presentation of colors. Compatriot Norman Goos provided the invocation. Doris Bugdon,
Council Woman and City Historian of Port Republic lead us in the Pledge Of Allegiance. This was followed by the Seasoned Singers rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
Memorable addresses where provided by EHT
Committeeman, John Risley, and Compatriot Goos. Historian Bugdon presented our chapter with a revolutionary period ships rib recovered during the blowout tide of 1971.
The superb condition of the monument area can be attributed to
Eagle Scout candidate Bill Wilkinson who undertook the rather significant landscaping effort as his Eagle Project. In recognition of his efforts Bill was presented with the Good Citizenship Award
We adjourned at noon, to once again go our seperate ways, perhaps made a little better by our fellowship and remembrances of Patriots past.
