Compatriot James F. Steelman, of the Col. Richard Somers Chapter, has done extensive reserch into the history of the Lake Family.  The Lakes were a particularly active family in South Jersey History and credited with the founding of Ocean City, NJ.  Additionally, many of their members were among the earliest inventors and engineers of our country.  The most famous of these being Simon Lake, who is credited, by many, as being the inventor of the modern submarine.  Many of our chapter members proudly claim kinship to the Lakes.

Compatriot Steelman has graciously granted his permision to have his work published at this site.
